Online course introduction:
· This course of study consists of 5 online classes (ICS-100, IS-700, S-130, S-190, and L-180) and one field session. All must be completed successfully to receive your final certificate. We will issue the final certificate upon successful completion of all training. (Note: this course content is usually covered in a 32 hour class. It could take you that much time to cover the material successfully). We also expect that you will invest yourself fully to gain the most from this new format of instruction. As you complete classes, be sure to print your certificates or save them electronically. You will need to provide us with all the necessary certificates when you attend the field training course. This training will cover skills necessary for wildland firefighting and will be outdoors in the field.
· NWCG and FEMA Online courses are sensitive to internet connectivity, so please ensure you have a good internet connection prior to starting the courses.
· Make sure your internet browser is up-to-date. Firefox and Chrome browsers seem to work best.
· Enable pop-ups in your internet browser to ensure smooth operation.
· Be prepared for some long hours of coursework, as well as some extremely corny jokes.
· If you have any questions please contact us and we will do our best to assist you. If you are having insurmountable difficulty accessing the course online we can provide you with the material on a cd.
· The online courses are hosted at two separate locations. FEMA provides the ICS/NIMS training, while NWCG provides the wildland fire training. Start with the ICS/NIMS courses by creating a FEMA Student ID here: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid
· After completing IS-100 and IS-700, navigate to the NWCG online training website: https://wildlandfirelearningportal.net/login/index.php
Create a new account and log in to complete the NWCG courses: S-190, S-130 and L-180. Note: for “Agency” select “NGO”, for “Unit” type “TNC Iowa” and for “Geographic Area” select “Eastern Area.” (Unless you are employed, then you should use your own Agency or Organization info). Use your regular contact information for the remaining fields. Once you have logged in, you will see all three courses listed on the right-hand side of the screen under the heading “On-Demand Self-Enroll Courses.” You will need to select each course and self-enroll individually.
