Description

In our youth-centered writing workshop, participants from kindergarten to 6th grade will develop skills to better observe the world around them by utilizing their senses and learning how to translate those observations into descriptive language, either through poetry, prose, or field journaling. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore Nahant Marsh and learn about the biodiversity and landscape of the preserve.

Participants will be given a small notebook to start their writing journey.

Instructor Bio: Madeline Young (she/they) is an AmeriCorps Naturalist at Nahant Marsh Education Center and a recent graduate from Augustana College with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Classical Studies. Quad Cities born, Madeline spent her youth on her family farm exploring the forests and streams, reading on the banks of the creek that crosscut the property. This is where she learned the importance of engaging with nature through creative endeavors. She is a MWC Young Emerging Writers alum and is passionate about increasing access to the arts and natural spaces through her work.
