Nature lovers in the QC Region - especially those that love pollinators - are invited to get outside and snap pictures of any insect seen visiting a flower. Then, upload your findings to iNaturalist, a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

The Backyard Bee Blitz is derived from a BioBlitz, an activity in which all of the biodiversity in a specific area is examined, to provide a snapshot in time of the flora and fauna present. During the Backyard Bee Blitz, we seek to know what species of bees and other insects are seen visiting flowers, and where they are, on this specific weekend.

We encourage veteran and aspiring pollinator spotters alike to venture out on a nature walk and participate in the blitz. All you have to do is go outside anytime on July 8, 9, or 10 , take a few insect photos, and upload them to iNaturalist. You don't need to upload them immediately; just be sure to select the correct date when uploading. They will automatically be counted as part of the Backyard Bee Blitz!
